I agree that our cities are a great place for followers of Jesus to grow and learn. I spent six years as a part of a church plant in inner-city Paterson, NJ, and I'm sure I learned much more than I taught during those years. Our cities can definitely have a transforming effect on those who are willing to move in and identify with the urban poor and who are more interested in learning than in teaching.

Paul, thanks for posting your comments. I have really enjoyed White's book and his emphasis on the city. I am doing a lot of reading/reflecting on the importance of cities and what it would look like for us as the church to focus on community transformation in the city. I like your words of thinking along the lines of "clusters" or "regions" rather than "language groups."

Great post. Cities are vital to the growth and impact of Christ in the world. In Europe we are beginning to think in mega regions and clusters of cities rather than language groups or nation-states. May God bring His kingdom to the cities of the earth!
