Brad, I appreciate your wide reading and concise writing. It helps me stay centered to the task. I continue to minister to a small congregation of retired couples living in a community where the population is 75% retired. They are full of life and a joy to be with. My goal is not to change the form of their worship style or their gathering routines, but to shore up the cracked foundation upon which they exist. I am attempting to "spark their missional imagination." Some very precious lights have come on in some, to some extent, which I praise God for. I live in two frameworks and the transition is slow toward mission. The gravitaional pull of the church "as a place where certain things happen" is powerful, maybe even too powerful to overcome for the congregation as a whole. But, once in a while, Jesus reveals Himself and what He is doing to one of our folks and for a moment, they are flung into a new orbit of the pulsating life of mission.
