Night Light Ministry
July 6, 2007 | Filed Under justice |
While in LA a few weeks ago I became aware of a great ministry called NightLight. NightLight is based in urban Bangkok (and now they have a “branch” in LA) that combats the sexual exploitation of women and children. I have to admit that I was not fully aware of the extent of human trafficking around the world, including the United Sates, until hearing a woman from NightLight speak on the topic.
One of the unique ways this ministry raises support and offers employment for those rescued from the world of trafficking is through the selling of hand-made jewelry that you can check out here. I hope you will consider buying some jewelry to help support this ministry and then allow the jewelry to be a conversation starter to share with others how they can help.
Here are just a few sobering statistics concerning human trafficking:
“Trafficking in human beings is now the third-largest moneymaking venture in the world, after illegal weapons and drugs. In fact, the United Nations estimates that the trade nets organized crime more than $12 billion a year” (Victor Malarek The Natashas: Inside the New Global Sex Trade)
According to a CIA report 700,000 to 2 million women and children worldwide are victimized by traffickers each year.
The UN estimates that around 4 million people a year are now traded against their will to work in some form of slavery.
As many as 50,000 women and children from Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe are brought to the U.S. under false pretenses each year and forced to work as prostitutes, abused laborers or servants (Joel Brinkley NYT citing CIA report).

Brad,
Thanks for sharing this here. My friend Mike Morrell recently shared with me about his involvement in a group seeking to combat human slavery and exploitation, as well.
I was shocked, like you, at how wide-spread and pervasive this sort of thing is, not only elswhere in the world but even in our own country.
We can all do something to help, so thanks for the information you’ve provided here, Brad.
Blessings,
Your Friends at Nameless, Faceless Love
