Pre-Conference: Equipping Your Church to Engage God’s Mission
The Missional Precon will provide a comprehensive overview of missional DNA, practices, missional community, and resources you will need to move people back into a genuine engagement with the mission of God. If you are planting this is a must orientation based on the American missionary context, but we will also be contextualizing the missional paradigm for pastors hoping to transition existing congregations. Our Forge team includes Alan & Deb Hirsch, Hugh Halter, Brad Brisco, Lance Ford and Rob Wegner who heads up our Future Travelers process for existing churches.
Day / Time: Monday, 1:00-5:00pm and Tuesday, 8:00am-11:30am
Location: Student Center – SC 101A
Workshop Session 1: Engaging God’s Mission Where You Live, Work & Play
While more and more people are less and less interested in the programs and activities of the church, missionally-minded people must learn how to lovingly engage people in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places that we inhabit. In this breakout we will discuss the topics of biblical hospitality in and through our homes (1st place), understanding how God has placed us in a vocation for His missional purposes (2nd place), and what it means to identify, create, and support Third Places in our communities.
Time: Tuesday, 2:30-3:30pm
Location: Student Center – SC 128
Workshop Session 5: Transitioning an Existing Congregation in a Missional Direction
Before talking about the how of missional living, it is important to discuss the why. In this breakout Brad will survey the theological foundations that set the stage for the church to move in a missional direction. Without a clear understanding of certain foundations, any change a church attempts to make will simply not be sustainable. Topics will include the missionary nature of the church, incarnational mission, participation in the missio Dei, and focusing on Kingdom living.
Time: Thursday, 8:45-9:45am
