“Mission, by its very nature, calls us into risky engagement, and because it does that it requires constant vigilance, relearning, adaptation, and unrelenting adjustments in the life of the organization. Therefore, missional church by its very definition must call into question many of the inherited ideas that underpin the prevailing forms and ideas of church. If left unchallenged, institutionalized dimensions of church life will inevitably pull the church into a vortex that will not only suppress the message but in the process destroy the spiritual legitimacy of the church itself.”

- Alan Hirsch in the Forward of Church Turned Inside Out by Linda Bergquist and Allan Karr
